Engineering Group Head II - Structural Test Lab, Instrumentation Engineering in Savannah, GA Alternate Location(s) Savannah, GA - Unique Skills Required: The Test Lab is looking for a Group Head for our Structural Test Lab, Instrumentation Engineering department. We desire someone with a diverse background which should include at least 5 years directing the instrumentation or load control for a full scale airframe FAA certification test program. Applicant would be expected to direct engineers and technician in the safe operation of data acquisition systems and load control systems. Operational experience related to the static and dynamic testing of aircraft a plus. Successful applicant will direct operations of our Test Lab control room including the setup and operation of load control systems and computer based data acquisition systems to support the conduct of static and fatigue test programs. Applicants with management experience directing aerospace test programs with the ability to evaluate data quality would fill our needs the best. Experience troubleshooting typical measurement system setup and hardware problems is also desired. Duties would include directing ongoing test programs (instrumentation & load control) as well as the build of new measurement & load control systems including planning procurement of the various systems required to combine components to achieve a professional control room environment in our new facilities. The Group Head would also direct the maintenance and operation (calibration) of our state-of-the-art systems built by HBM & MOOG. Successful applicant would direct the evaluation and selection process of appropriate test equipment and execute the various sensor installation phases for major aerospace test programs while providing technical guidance and training to instrumentation technicians and test engineers. Tasks will also include program planning to assure that resources are being effectively utilized. Experience with Strain Gage applications is desired.
Experience/Education Required: - Bachelors degree in Engineering, a related curriculum, or equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential functions of the job. - See Other Requirements in Job Description.Thirteen (13) years engineering experience with at least eight (8) years in the specific technical discipline. - Five (5) years prior supervisory or broad managerial responsibility.

Utilizing creative and mature engineering judgment, manages complex engineering problems by directing subordinate employees. Determines program objectives and requirements, organizes and estimates work scope of programs and projects
Principal Duties and Responsibilities Essential Functions: 1) Develops and administers organizational unit schedules, tasks, deliverables, sets performance requirements, estimates work scopes, ensures quality of delivered product, and monitors budget performance
2) Manages directly, or through subordinates, employees that perform similar or related tasks; Establishes performance expectations, conducts performance appraisals, salary management, and participates in development, training, and counseling of employees
3) Responsible for establishing and executing objectives that support both short and long term goals
4) Conducts briefings for senior level management and conducts technical meetings for internal/external contacts and customers
5) Acts as an advisor to subordinate supervisors or staff members to meet schedules and resolve complex technical or operational problems
6) Directly participates in functional projects; Must lead a cooperative effort among members of a project team
Additional Functions: 1) Interprets, executes, and recommends modifications to organizational policies
2) Performs other duties as assigned
