Unique Skills:

Principal Duties and Responsibilities:
1. Provides guidelines in application of Human Factors (HF) requirements to equipment design during all stages of the design process, from concept definition through detailed design.

2. Applies structured quantitative or subjective methods to generate HF requirements and ensures human centered design and optimum usability in the operation, maintainability, and/or manufacturing of aircraft systems.

3. Leads and/or performs structured test plan development and analysis of full and part task simulations using prototyping tools (e.g., software simulated display layouts, pilot-in-the-loop hardware simulations) to obtain early, multiple user feedback for HF requirement definition.

4. Provides analysis of detailed design concepts to functional teams through the use of modeling techniques for reach and force requirements for a wide anthropometric range of individuals of a targeted population.

5. Holds multidisciplinary review meetings as needed to clarify analysis goals. Creates specific project milestones that can be integrated in the overall group product plan and schedule.

6. Creates and supervises pilot workload assessments through measurement techniques such as rating scales, questionnaires, and flight technical error analysis.

7. Generates estimates of procedural human error using task analysis and human error analysis methods.

8. Collaborates on the coordination and development of facilities and/or technology to support simulation testing.

9. Creates flight test plans and reports, engineering reports and/or memos to substantiate compliance with human factors certification regulations

10. Develops trade studies on system design concepts and presents human factors recommendations to multidisciplinary design teams and upper management.

Problem Solving Opportunities:
1. Must be able to determine appropriate test scope for problem resolution according to schedule impact.

2. Must be able to determine if available methods are sufficient for problem resolution and if not, provide a plan for risk mitigation.

3. Must be able to compile, analyze, and apply big data to everyday business decisions.

4. May be assigned research problems to further the program's objectives.

Education & Training Requirements:
1. Bachelor of Science degree in engineering. An advanced in aerospace engineering or human factors is preferred.

2. Pilot license (or related experience) would be an advantage.

3. Knowledge of FAA and EASA HF certification regulations is preferred.

4. Experience with simulation software is preferred (e.g. CATIA V5 Human Builder and 3DSSPP).

5. Experience with requirements management tools is preferred (e.g. DOORS).

Communications Skills:
1. Must be able to clearly and concisely present technical status to leadership.

2. Must be able to support analysis results to leadership and pertinent engineering functions.

3. Must be able to prepare status reports that accurately reflect the status of team initiatives.

4. Regular contact with various departmental personnel to exchange job related information and resolve problems.

Education and Experience Requirements:

Bachelor's Degree in engineering or related curriculum applicable to the respective job position required. 13 yrs specific technical discipline or 15 yrs broad eng experience in several technical disciplines with Bachelors. Experience credit considered for related adv degrees limited to 2 yrs for Masters and 4 yrs for PhD in fields applicable to this job .

Works on engineering projects containing critical problems, the solution of which requires major technological advances and extensive related development

Principle Duties and Responsibilities:

Essential Functions: 1. Responsible for an entire engineering project of major complexity within established scope 2. Makes technical decisions and recommendations that are recognized as authoritative and have an important impact on extensive engineering activities 3. Applies advanced technical principles, theories and concepts based on broad expertise or unique specialized knowledge 4. Leads the development of innovative principles and ideas 5. Acts independently to determine improved methods and/or procedures to optimize technical product, cost and schedule requirements 6. Works under consultative direction; uses independent judgment to accomplish objectives 7. Develops standards and guides for diverse engineering activities 8. Conceives and plans investigation of broad areas of importance for which engineering precedents are lacking in areas critical to the program Perform other duties as assigned.

Other Requirements: 1. Advanced degree in engineering or related curriculum preferred.
2. The level of technical skill and abilities appropriate for this grade will be established by each discipline.
